Frequently Asked Questions

What separates Taekwondo from other martial arts?

Taekwondo separates itself from Karate in that Taekwondo is known for how powerful and effective its kicking techniques are. We do focus on hands as well, but we focus more on kicks. It’s about a 70/30 split. Another great separation is that Taekwondo is an Olympic sport.

Am I too old or too young for martial arts training?

We start students at 2 years old and it goes all the way up. We encourage students of all ages to come and attend classes. We offer classes for different age groups and levels of proficiency.

Could my child become a bully or become aggressive from martial arts training?

Many people wonder this question, however, it’s quite the opposite. Xcellent Taekwondo Center teaches children how not to become a bully. Taekwondo encourages students to build confidence and the courage and respect needed to turn away from fighting. Martial arts doesn’t just teach self-defense, it teaches life skills children need to succeed in life.

How much training does it take to be able to defend myself?

This really depends on the effort and time the individual puts into their training. It’s been said that you could see some pretty good results in a short amount of time. With martial arts, you can also see additional benefits such as increased health, energy, and a feeling of accomplishment at the end of each class.

How long does it take to get a black belt?

Generally speaking, if you attend your martial arts class regularly 2 to 3 times per week and practice at home a few times a week, you can pass the requirements needed to obtain your black belt in about 4 years, but the training does not stop there! A black belt is just the beginning of another level of excitement!
